Serious Threat to Humans

Malaria is one of three major infectious diseases, which affects/kills 220 million and 435 thousand people per year (2017 data), respectively.

Needs for Precise, Easy and Inexpensive Diagnostics

While Rapid Diagnostic Testing (RDT), microscopic and PCR are currently used for diagnosis as the global standards, each has pros/cons from the aspects of reliability, variance of sensitivity, ease-of-use and cost, which leaves room for improvement.

Contributions to Global Health

Initiated by the Department of Tropical Medicine and Malaria in NCGM’s Research Institute, this project aims to develop rapid, precise and easy-to-use malaria diagnostics through evaluating two novel medical devices (*), which leads to contributions to Global Health. (*)Individually developed by EIKEN CHEMICAL CO., LTD. and SYSMEX CORPORATION

AMR (Anti-Microbial Resistance) is known to be a serious threat to humans, and its control is one of today’s global challenges.

AMR bacteria are more frequently observed in ASEAN, particularly in Vietnam.  This surveillance aims to gain awareness that proper use of anti-microbials is very important for AMR control.

This initiative is driven by a global partnership among NCGM, SDP and stakeholders in Vietnam to fulfill public needs of AMR control
